Pre-registered ADAPT-1 baseline task B3 (executes open issue #162). Baseline master: 243474c6. Expected future route: RESEARCHED_CHANGE.

Why this class: external backend/framework selection (Qdrant embedded vs server vs alternative); unknown mechanism (dense/sparse/multivector + ColBERT-style retrieval against Rune's memory shapes); materially different viable designs; memory/governance implications (projection must stay rebuildable per the architecture principle); prior art matters (#161 harness now exists to benchmark against).

Acceptance criteria (from #162): a spike comparing dense/sparse/multivector retrieval against the #161 harness's measurement model; documented fit/conflict with Rune's projection architecture; a recommendation with evidence.

Known dependencies: #161 harness (merged, v0.56.0+); memory_selector registry; sqlite-vec baseline.

Prior research/artifacts: #161 full research chain + harness (already merged); #163 adversarial findings on projection framing (M3: read-only rebuildable projection, never a second store).

Reconciliation (2026-09-11): ADAPT-1 B3 probe (Qdrant spike): evidentiary purpose complete. The probe's genuine research (25 sources, 10 read) is preserved; the run stopped per baseline rule 1 (D2 file-reader defect, fixed in PR #313). Superseded by B3-v3 on #165 which completed the full pipeline.

Disposition: HISTORICAL_EVIDENCE — probe data preserved; superseded by B3-v3 #165.

Evidence: current source, merged PRs, canonical intent state (docs/RUNE_CANONICAL_INTENT_STATE.md).
