Nick b142bab2f3 fix(tests): deps in-lock, engine escape hatches, honest skips, checker tests aligned (#2553)
ci.yml (push) Invalid workflow file
deploy / deploy (push) Skipped
Local-Model First-Pass Review (#131) / first-pass-review (pull_request) Successful in 23s
Spec gate (headless) / spec-gate (pull_request) Successful in 24s
The unit battery on a fresh checkout: jsonschema/pytest-xdist imported
but never pinned (the lock-only law) — extras extended and re-frozen;
the engine-seam tests pin the PYTHON oracle in a python-only job; the
three kernel-port tests skip honestly when the kernel is absent; the
checker tests now pin the intent/strict duality (intent = the default
CI mode, strict = the deliberate re-lock); the canary self-module
import is pre-bound with raise-guards for honest narrowing.
Ratchets green (84e/536w, 0/0).

Run-scoped TMPDIR for rust-surface/go-surface: the frozen batteries write
temp_dir()-scratch, and a machine-global /tmp aliased my local runs with
CI (nick-owned sr_sandbox denied the runner user EACCES then stale-diverged
the registry truth). Each run owns /tmp/rune-ci-tmp-<id>; the prune glob
covers it and the CI contract pins both. go local_tool_runtime truth test
pins its own allowed cwd (empty-path rows resolve to the CWD — runner
lives under /var, a blocked dir). Engine builds run in subshells: one
step, one session — bare cd persisted. deps-lock intent mode + the
query-memory degrade rewrite ride the same wave; both ratchets green
(84e/536w, 0/0).

The frozen seed SHA is identity-full: the runner ambient git user differs
from mine, so the fixture recipe drifted per machine even with dates
pinned. Name/email ride the same env-pinning law.

CI (runs 33183/33323) drove five more truths into the open: (1) the
lock-treadmill — the strict re-resolution races upstream releases
(hypothesis shipped twice inside one afternoon); the checker now runs an
INTENT mode (lock direct-deps vs pyproject direct-deps, pure text, no
network) by default and keeps the live-index re-lock as the explicit
--strict mode a lock refresh uses. (2) The canary go-engine builds run in
SUBSHELLS: one step, one session — a bare cd persisted and denied the
other three engines. (3) local_tool_runtime truth row: resolvePath("") =
the CWD — under /mnt/workdrive allowed, under /var (runner) blocked;
the truth test pins its own allowed cwd (tmp under /tmp) and restores it.
(4) system_registry/intent/behaviour/outcome batteries pid-scoped or
documented canonical (registry file content embeds the path). (5) the
query-memory canary degrade paths use raise-guards so pyright narrows
with no unbound/error drift: 84e/536w held, 12/0 local. All 7 touched
battery crates fmt+test green.

contract:ADMIT-repair-ci-canary-environment (surface: rust batteries +
henxels D4 shape fix). Three roots: (1) graph_projection epoch pin is
process-global and cargo tests race it — the kernel fell back to wall
clock 1-in-6; pins now serialize on a mutex. (2) Fixed /tmp scratch
names cross users on a sticky /tmp — intent_continuity, outcome_ledger,
behaviour_ledger pid-scoped; system_registry stays canonical (frozen
registry content embeds the path) with purge law + tracked relocatable
regeneration. (3) contracts: auto_tasks retirement left truth at 42 vs
registry 41 — pins updated, run_all row dropped, ct_gap_truth re-frozen
(126 rows) + replayed green. Full per-crate battery green, stress clean.
henxels_checks D4: retired-modules ledger rows are rich dicts now;
shape-tolerant extraction ends the unhashable-dict storm.

contract:ADMIT-repair-ci-canary-environment (surface extended: map, lock,
spine truth) — coverage 7.17.0 released between the lock regen and the
check: the checker now regenerates with --upgrade so installed-seed venvs
cannot steer resolution; pinned in ci-contracts. The deploy-test find
prune carried the same no-match pipefail disease as the ls — guarded
identically. The 9 swept Python modules are mapped into their umbrellas
(map travels with the change; spine truth rebuilt). henxels clean, both
ratchets green, 5 CI contract tests green.

contract:ADMIT-repair-ci-canary-environment — four red classes fixed
at source: empty-glob tmpfs prune no longer dies under pipefail;
persona-gate builds into run-scoped temp state; spine child inherits the
built kernel and run-scoped home; rune-entry builds its sleep-time
sibling; full-system canary bootstraps a self-cleaning HOME before memory
imports. Consolidation writes now use stable-inode flock around
reload/mutate/atomic-replace, with an 8-process stale-snapshot mutant pin.

The lint gate red was inherited from master: the lock resolved against a
warm-cache view of the PyPI index while the runner's checker resolves
against a cold cache (always current). Regenerated with the pinned
resolver (uv 0.10.11) over a cold cache; pins verified stable across two
independent cold-cache resolutions.

5. CONTEXT READOUT PER-MODEL ACCURACY: context available must be accurate FOR EVERY MODEL LOADED (the limit source must be per-model: Ollama /api/show for locals, the registry limit for cloud — not a single cached value).
6. VERSION HYPERLINK STILL NOT RENDERING (the OSC 8 fix landed but the bar doesn't show it — diagnose the live render path; maybe the deployed binary predates the fix or the detection gate is misfiring).
7. MODEL OPENS THE PICKER: clicking the model name in the info bar opens the centered model picker (the picker's second road — the click road beside ctrl+m).
### #2535 — PANE-OWNED SCROLLING + COMPOSER OWNERSHIP + ANSI COMPOSITION (owner, 2026-10-22, fixes #2535)
1. PANE-OWNED SCROLLING (supersedes any D35-era composer-history wording): the chat transcript and the task surface (the lanes task list while the tree region is closed; the open task tree when open) each own their own scroll display state, and history lives in the pane. PageUp/PageDown and ctrl+up/ctrl+down route to the FOCUSED pane; the mouse wheel routes to the pane under the pointer (region hit-test over the face's current frame) regardless of keyboard focus; one wheel detent ≈ 3 lines. Chat upward exhaustion still grows the bridge's poll depth (the /history law's live leg). Boundary chrome (promote region, rail takeover, semantic modal) declines pane scrolling while it owns the input.
2. THE COMPOSER OWNS NO SCROLLING AND NO SENT-INPUT RECALL: Up/Down in the composer edit/move within the draft (multiline cursor motion) or sit at a boundary — they never recall prior submissions. Submission recording and persistence remain for file compatibility. No scrollbar, no scrolling state, nothing overflows into the composer: no pane thumb may land at or below region.input.
3. ANSI COMPOSITION (the layer law made concrete): the pane border cells are styled independently of the content layer — a nested SGR reset in content can no longer neutralize an outer border color (the right-edge grey-where-pink-should-be defect). Region overlays (tree, skills, promote, changes) splice at DISPLAY columns through tui/semantic.SpliceDisplay with whole-run tokenization; the rune-indexed splice copies are retired. Frozen fixtures updated only where they had baked the byte-level leak in (reorder-mid-flight: 34 leaked interior columns; skills-region: severed-escape fragments) — plain sentences and visual semantics unchanged.
4. OVERLAY-OBSERVER PARITY: gauges/picker overlays are transparent to wheel, click, AND page keys (View-level composition, no region insertion of their own — card buttons are the exception that PROVES the rule: their y/n click regions are explicit, the wheel dispatch still only routes the three pane regions). Parity by construction: the wheel dispatch routes ONLY region.chat/region.tasks/region.tasks.tree, so an overlay can never scroll a pane behind it. The lanes chat scroll offset's honest observer is the STATE pass-through (ChatScrollOffset through lanes → rail → promote → tasks), not the rendered frame: under chrome the frame belongs to the takeover.

# Issue #2535 Pane Scrolling and Border Isolation Implementation Plan
> **For agentic workers:** REQUIRED SUB-SKILL: Use compose:subagent (recommended) or compose:execute to implement this plan task-by-task. Steps use checkbox (`- [ ]`) syntax for tracking.
**Goal:** Make chat and task history genuinely scrollable by pane, remove sent-input-history navigation from the composer, and prevent nested ANSI content from leaking terminal-default grey into pane borders.
**Architecture:** Scrolling remains renderer-owned display state. Chat keeps its existing `chatpane.scrollState`; the lanes task list gains a viewport, while the open task tree uses its existing `view` window through explicit scroll APIs. The shell dispatches keyboard scrolling by focused pane and mouse-wheel scrolling by hit-tested pane region. Borders style each edge cell independently from content.
**Tech Stack:** Go 1.25, Bubble Tea v2, Lip Gloss v2, Rune semantic frames/regions, Go tests.
## Global Constraints
- Gitea issue **#2535** is the sole ledger; #2546 is a closed duplicate.
- The shared composer owns text editing only: no pane scrollbar, page scrolling, wheel scrolling, or sent-input recall.
- `PageUp`/`PageDown` and `Ctrl+Up`/`Ctrl+Down` target the focused pane; mouse wheel targets the pane under the pointer.
- Wheel input over `region.input`, menus, the thinking bridge, info chrome, or outside a pane is a no-op.
- Scrolling chat above the held window preserves the existing deeper-history fetch.
- Task viewport state is display state and must not enter semantic fingerprints or persisted task authority.
- The open task tree and the closed lanes task list must both scroll; changing a hidden lanes list is not success.
- Scrollbars stop above `region.input`; the composer must never contain `▐`.
- Focused pane and composer borders remain pink; the intentionally unfocused pane remains color 240 grey.
- Nested ANSI resets inside content may not alter either outer border cell.
- No unrelated TUI redesign or module split.
## Findings and feasibility
- Chat already has complete line-offset/page state in `tui/chatpane/scroll.go`; this leg is routing work, not a rewrite.
- The task lanes scrollbar is selection-derived decoration, not a viewport. `taskContent` renders all rows and `drawPane` truncates the tail.
- The open task tree overlays the lanes task pane and has a `view` field, so it needs a separate public scrolling path.
- The shell handles clicks but drops `tea.MouseWheelMsg`.
- Composer `Input3` explicitly owns sent-history browsing, conflicting with the newer owner ruling.
- `drawPane` styles `│ + content + │` as one run; a nested SGR reset cancels the style before the right border.
- Feasibility: high (0.9). Estimated implementation and verification: 2–4 hours. Main risk: keeping open-tree and closed-list viewport semantics aligned without changing semantic state.
- Baseline: `lanes`, `chatpane`, `nav`, and `tasks` pass. `cmd/rune-tui` has three pre-existing PTY/live failures (boot bridge timeout, consent flow timeout, model pane exit timeout); do not attribute those to this branch without a before/after delta.
---
### Task 1: Remove composer history navigation and isolate border cells
**Covers:** composer ownership; grey-border defect.
**Files:**
- Modify: `tui/nav/input3.go`
- Modify: `tui/nav/input3_test.go`
- Modify: `tui/cmd/rune-tui/main_test.go`
- Modify: `tui/lanes/render.go`
- Modify: `tui/lanes/lanes_test.go`
**Interfaces:**
- Preserve: submission recording and `History() []string` for file compatibility.
- Remove: sent-history browsing ownership from Up/Down.
- Produce: border rows whose left and right cells each reassert the pane border style.
- [ ] Add `TestInputArrowsNeverRecallSentHistory`: submit two values, type a draft, press Up/Down, and prove the draft is never replaced by a historic submission.
- [ ] Add `TestNestedANSIResetCannotResetPaneBorder`: render styled content ending in SGR reset; prove both vertical edge cells locally carry pink when focused and color 240 when unfocused.
- [ ] Run the exact new tests and observe failures caused by history recall and right-edge style reset.
- [ ] Delete `stash`, `browsing`, `idx`, `browseUp`, `browseDown`, and `exitBrowsing`; route Up/Down only through multiline cursor movement/no-op-at-boundary.
- [ ] Change `drawPane` interior rows to `style.Render("│") + content + padding + style.Render("│")`; retain wholly styled top/bottom borders.
- [ ] Run `go test ./nav ./lanes ./cmd/rune-tui -run 'InputArrowsNeverRecall|NestedANSIReset|Composer'` from `tui/` and observe green.
### Task 2: Add genuine task viewports to both task surfaces
**Covers:** task-pane history/work-stream scrolling; scrollbar accuracy.
**Files:**
- Modify: `tui/lanes/lanes.go`
- Modify: `tui/lanes/render.go`
- Modify: `tui/lanes/lanes_test.go`
- Modify: `tui/rail/rail.go`
- Modify: `tui/promote/promote.go`
- Modify: `tui/tasks/face.go`
- Modify: `tui/tasks/render.go`
- Modify: `tui/tasks/face_test.go`
**Interfaces:**
- Produce on the face chain: `ScrollTaskUp(int) bool`, `ScrollTaskDown(int) bool`, `PageTaskUp() bool`, `PageTaskDown() bool`, and task-scroll touch/offset inspection needed by tests.
- Closed lanes list owns `top/rows/total/fade`; open tree uses `Tasks.view` and its actual rendered row capacity.
- [ ] Add `TestTaskViewportPagesAndKeepsSelectionVisible` with more tasks than pane rows; paging must change visible IDs and keep the selected ID visible.
- [ ] Add `TestTaskScrollbarUsesViewportAndStopsBeforeComposer`; activate scrolling and prove no thumb occurs at or below `region.input.Y`.
- [ ] Add `TestOpenTreePageScrollMovesVisibleTreeNotHiddenLanesList`; prove open-tree rows, not the hidden list, change.
- [ ] Run these tests and observe failures from missing viewport APIs/current top truncation.
- [ ] Add lanes task viewport state, clamping, selection-follow, visible-row click-region remapping, and viewport-derived scrollbar math.
- [ ] Pass task-scroll APIs through rail and promote.
- [ ] Add open-tree page/line scrolling over `Tasks.view`; preserve steer/wave replacement views and clone display state correctly.
- [ ] Render the open-tree scrollbar only inside its pane columns above `InputFloor`.
- [ ] Run `go test ./lanes ./rail ./promote ./tasks` and observe green.
### Task 3: Centralize pane scrolling and add mouse-wheel routing
**Covers:** chat-pane scrolling; keyboard focus routing; pointer-region routing; composer exclusion.
**Files:**
- Modify: `tui/cmd/rune-tui/main.go`
- Modify: `tui/cmd/rune-tui/historydepth_test.go`
- Create or Modify: `tui/cmd/rune-tui/scrollrouting_test.go`
**Interfaces:**
- Add one shell dispatcher that accepts target pane, direction, amount/page mode.
- Add region hit-testing for `region.chat`, `region.tasks`, and `region.tasks.tree`.
- Handle `tea.MouseWheelMsg` with a small fixed line step (3).
- [ ] Add `TestPageKeysRouteByFocusedPane`: page keys alter only the focused pane; task focus must never alter chat offset.
- [ ] Add `TestMouseWheelRoutesByCursorAndComposerOwnsNone`: wheel over chat/tasks changes only that pane; wheel over composer changes neither.
- [ ] Add/retain a chat-backfill assertion proving upward exhaustion still grows bridge history depth.
- [ ] Run the new tests and observe failure because task/page routing and wheel handling are absent.
- [ ] Move page/control key handling ahead of composer editing but after modal/menu ownership; route by focus.
- [ ] Add coordinate-based wheel dispatch; no-op outside pane regions and over composer.
- [ ] Touch only the moved pane’s fade state; touch downward movement as well as upward movement.
- [ ] Run `go test ./cmd/rune-tui -run 'Scroll|History|Wheel|PageKeys'` and observe green.
### Task 4: Integrate, review, and release through #2535
**Covers:** full fix-cycle evidence and delivery.
**Files:**
- Modify: `docs/architecture/boundary-law.md`
- Modify: release/version files selected by the repository release policy.
- Update: Gitea issue #2535, PR, and CI evidence.
- [ ] Update the boundary law so the newer per-pane-scroll/composer-ownership contract supersedes obsolete composer-history wording everywhere.
- [ ] Run `gofmt` on all changed Go files.
- [ ] Run affected package suites: `go test ./lanes ./chatpane ./nav ./rail ./promote ./tasks`.
- [ ] Run focused shell tests and compare PTY/live failures against the recorded baseline.
- [ ] Run the repository canary/quality commands discovered in `AGENTS.md`, `Makefile`, and required Gitea checks.
- [ ] Dispatch independent spec and code-quality reviews; repair only evidenced defects.
- [ ] Create conventional commits referencing `#2535`, apply the release-policy semantic bump, push the issue branch, open a Gitea PR linked to `#2535`, and wait for required CI.
- [ ] Merge only after local evidence and required checks pass; close #2535 with test, commit, PR, version, and deployment evidence.
## Canary contracts approved by “fix it”
1. **CHAT_FOCUS_SCROLL:** page/control keys move chat only and preserve deeper-history fetch.
2. **TASK_FOCUS_SCROLL:** the same keys move the active task surface only, including the open task tree.
3. **POINTER_PANE_SCROLL:** mouse wheel targets the pane beneath the pointer regardless of keyboard focus.
4. **COMPOSER_NO_SCROLL:** composer wheel/page input changes no pane and Up/Down never recalls sent input.
5. **TASK_VIEWPORT_TRUTH:** selected task remains visible; click regions map visible rows to absolute task IDs; thumb follows viewport, not merely selection.
6. **SCROLLBAR_FLOOR:** no pane thumb appears in or below the composer region.
7. **BORDER_ANSI_ISOLATION:** nested ANSI resets cannot change either border edge; intended unfocused grey remains intact.
## Self-review
- Coverage: all owner-reported symptoms and #2535 acceptance scope map to Tasks 1–3; delivery maps to Task 4.
- Placeholders: none.
- Type consistency: task-scroll method names remain identical across lanes → rail → promote → tasks → shell.
- Scope guard: persisted input history may remain for compatibility, but has no UI navigation authority.

"""CI dependency-lock drift ratchet (#150).
`requirements-ci.txt` is the committed, fully-pinned CI dependency set,
generated from pyproject.toml. This script re-runs the compile into a temp
file and fails if the committed lock no longer matches pyproject.toml —
the lock is a ratchet, reviewed and re-committed, never auto-mutated.
generated from pyproject.toml. Default check = INTENT: the lock's DIRECT
requirements must match pyproject.toml's declared dependencies/constraints
(a pure text compare — no network). This is the drift the ratchet exists
to catch (a dep edited without regenerating), WITHOUT chasing PyPI: the
live-index re-resolution races upstream releases by design — coverage
7.17.0 and hypothesis 6.170.x each landed between a regen and a check
(#2552/#2553, three ladder runs lost to that design hole).
Regenerate after ANY dependency edit (then commit the result):
uv pip compile pyproject.toml -o requirements-ci.txt --extra dev --extra memory --python-version 3.11
uv pip compile --upgrade pyproject.toml -o requirements-ci.txt --extra dev --extra memory --python-version 3.11
`--strict` re-runs the live-index compile (the upgrade-based ratchet) for
a deliberate re-lock: the mode that ships with a lock refresh, never in
routine CI.
--python-version 3.11 matches the CI runners (not the dev machine's
interpreter) so environment markers resolve to runner reality. CI installs
