Plain summary

Follow-up from #23's quality gate (general-182): several outbound inference paths remain untraced even after the P0-07 operator-path tracing. This issue tracks bringing them under measurement or explicitly documenting their exclusion.

Untraced paths (census, general-182)

  1. Approval-resume turns — rune_operator.py _runtime_for_model (fresh transport) used by runtime.approve()/reject(): a full model run on the operator's own path with NO trace. Highest priority — same operator the issue targets.
  2. Mid-assembly compaction calls — context_broker.summarize_history creates its own transport; its usage is invisible to both the trace's served sums and the estimated blocks.
  3. Raw-urllib side paths (each its own /api/generate|/api/embed call): night_mode (×2), sleep_time, goal, growth_delta, witness, abstraction, elastic_cognition (×2), model_connect (×2), provider_registry, tiered_executor, rune_tui keep-alive warmup, persona_gate, memory_store embeddings.

Acceptance

  • Approval-resume runs produce a trace (or are explicitly excluded with rationale).
  • Compaction spend folded into the run's trace or recorded as its own trace type.
  • Each side path either traced or listed as documented-exclusion with reason.
  • The rotation-chain lesson (guard-on-source, full range — from the P0-07 I1 fix) applied if any new JSONL store is added.

Dependencies

Builds on #23 (shipped). Natural pairing with #29 (provider registry fills the price map) and #48 (event-triggered cognition may add new call sites).

CLOSED PROGRAMMATICALLY — commit a5e77ac (contract BUILDER-2026-10-08T10:43:54Z-5c5f34). inference_paths.py enumerates all 16 outbound model-call sites; approval-resume is TRACED via trace_side_path; the census test fails the build on any new untraced site. 6/6 green.
