Summary

• Pane-owned scrollback: chat transcript and the task surface (closed lanes list / open task tree) each own real viewport display state; PageUp/PageDown + ctrl+up/ctrl+down route to the FOCUSED pane (one dispatcher), the mouse wheel routes to the pane under the pointer (region hit-test, independent of focus), wheel detent = 3 lines.
• Composer owns neither: no pane scrolling, no sent-input recall with Up/Down (draft editing only; recording/persistence kept), no scrollbar and no thumb at/below region.input — no-op over composer/bridge/menus/boundary chrome; chat upward exhaustion still grows the bridge poll depth.
• ANSI composition hardening (the grey-border defect): pane border cells styled independently of content; all four rune-indexed splice copies retired into the new shared tui/semantic ANSI home (TokenizeANSI/SpliceDisplay/DisplayWindow/ANSIWellFormed); selection checker re-derived display-column aware; frozen fixtures updated only where they had baked in byte-level leak/corruption artifacts (plain sentences unchanged).
• Boundary law updated (#2535 section): pane-owned scrolling, composer ownership, ANSI composition, overlay-observer parity.

Verification (local evidence)

• TDD red-first: 14 new/updated pins (scrollrouting_test.go, overlay_display_test.go x2, selection/ansi/treeBase/parked pins) — each observed failing for the right reason before implementation, green after.
• go test ./... from tui/: 44 packages ok; exactly the 3 known pre-existing PTY/live failures in cmd/rune-tui (reproduced byte-identical at base 930b4dbf in a throwaway worktree — zero delta).
• gofmt clean, go vet clean. Two-stage gates (spec + quality) passed per task; final integration review: ready-to-merge (all 7 canaries green, canary→test table in the review).

Version intent (declared)

chore(deps): regenerate CI dependency lock against runner-fresh resolution (#2535) ... 5844519723

The lint gate red was inherited from master: the lock resolved against a
warm-cache view of the PyPI index while the runner's checker resolves
against a cold cache (always current). Regenerated with the pinned
resolver (uv 0.10.11) over a cold cache; pins verified stable across two
independent cold-cache resolutions.

(stable, 2026-10-20); its canonical wrapping changed and ~100 crates
drifted out of cargo fmt -- --check, reding rust-surface on master and

crates build clean; fmt --check green per crate. Same class as the
uv 0.13.4 resolver drift: host toolchain upgrades must ship a repo

CI (runs 33183/33323) drove five more truths into the open: (1) the
lock-treadmill — the strict re-resolution races upstream releases
(hypothesis shipped twice inside one afternoon); the checker now runs an
INTENT mode (lock direct-deps vs pyproject direct-deps, pure text, no
network) by default and keeps the live-index re-lock as the explicit
--strict mode a lock refresh uses. (2) The canary go-engine builds run in
SUBSHELLS: one step, one session — a bare cd persisted and denied the
other three engines. (3) local_tool_runtime truth row: resolvePath("") =
the CWD — under /mnt/workdrive allowed, under /var (runner) blocked;
the truth test pins its own allowed cwd (tmp under /tmp) and restores it.
(4) system_registry/intent/behaviour/outcome batteries pid-scoped or
documented canonical (registry file content embeds the path). (5) the
query-memory canary degrade paths use raise-guards so pyright narrows
with no unbound/error drift: 84e/536w held, 12/0 local. All 7 touched
battery crates fmt+test green.

Run-scoped TMPDIR for rust-surface/go-surface: the frozen batteries write
temp_dir()-scratch, and a machine-global /tmp aliased my local runs with
CI (nick-owned sr_sandbox denied the runner user EACCES then stale-diverged
the registry truth). Each run owns /tmp/rune-ci-tmp-<id>; the prune glob
covers it and the CI contract pins both. go local_tool_runtime truth test
pins its own allowed cwd (empty-path rows resolve to the CWD — runner
lives under /var, a blocked dir). Engine builds run in subshells: one
step, one session — bare cd persisted. deps-lock intent mode + the
query-memory degrade rewrite ride the same wave; both ratchets green
(84e/536w, 0/0).
